📝 Backboard.io raises pre-seed
News of the Day
Backboard.io has secured a "substantial" pre-seed funding round to tackle the persistent issue of "AI amnesia," a common bottleneck where large language models lose critical context across different sessions. Founded in April 2025 by Rob Imbeault—a co-founder of the supply chain unicorn Assent—the company aims to transition AI from a stateless tool into a system capable of long-term memory and cross-model portability. The investment was led by Mistral Venture Partners with participation from Garage Capital, N49P, and DevCap, reflecting strong investor confidence in "unsexy" infrastructure that enables long-running autonomous agents and enterprise assistants to improve the more they are used. Backboard.io distinguishes itself by allowing users to plug their interaction history into over 2,000 different models, preventing vendor lock-in while maintaining industry-leading accuracy in conversational memory. Despite initial plans to move to Arizona due to tax concerns, Imbeault has committed to building the venture in Ottawa, prioritizing his family and the city's growing tech ecosystem as he scales the team to meet the demands of the next generation of generative AI.
