Claryx, founded by brothers Kurt and Dirk Hackenberger, has raised $3.5 million in pre-seed equity funding led by Outlander VC, with participation from Company Ventures, Boost VC, Neon, Mana Ventures, 640 Oxford, and Precursor Ventures. Driven by a personal family experience with hospital-acquired C. difficile and sepsis, the founders developed the CloneLink platform, which uses cost-effective metagenomic sequencing chemistry developed during Dirk's PhD at McMaster University to continuously map a hospital's environmental genetic data across air, water, and surface samples. By comparing patient pathogen genomes against this digital map, Claryx enables hospital epidemiology teams to pinpoint and disinfect environmental infection reservoirs upstream before outbreaks spread. Although originating in Canada, the company is focusing its initial commercial rollout on New York state hospitals to navigate simpler procurement processes in the U.S. private healthcare system, having already partnered with two hospitals and signed a third.
