David Petrou, a longtime Google engineer behind Google Goggles and Glass, has launched Continua, a startup bringing AI agents into group chats on SMS, iMessage, and Discord to streamline planning and coordination. The platform, which can set reminders, launch polls, add calendar events, and answer missed details, raised an $8 million seed round led by GV with participation from Bessemer and angel investors. Unlike typical LLM assistants built for one-on-one chats, Continua’s AI is tuned for “social intelligence,” joining conversations only when helpful and integrating naturally into group dynamics. Already piloting use cases like event planning and trip booking, Continua could monetize by charging for these services in the future.
