News of the Day
French VC firm Daphni has closed the first round of its new fund, Daphni Blue, securing €200 million ($215 million) and targeting €250 million ($270 million) by year-end. Known for investments in Back Market, Swile, and Pasqal, Daphni has backed 70 European startups since 2015 and plans to add 40 more with this fund. Unlike many VCs fixated on AI, Daphni is focusing on deep science—quantum computing, life sciences, physics, and mathematics—recruiting PhDs to its team. Co-founder Pierre-Eric Leibovici emphasized that raising funds is just the beginning: real success lies in delivering returns through exits.
VCs on average tend to overcommit when valuations are highest and r/r worst in crypto; another way to read this = capital raising is easiest when everyone feels like a genius + some are paper rich
