Paris-based deeptech startup En Carta Diagnostics has secured the first closing of a $5.75 million financing round to scale its at-home molecular testing platform. Founded in 2022 by Guillaume Horreard and Margot Karlikow, the company utilizes an aptamer-based, cell-free synthetic biology platform to deliver laboratory-grade PCR precision via an affordable, single-use visual cassette that yields results in just 30 minutes. The fresh capital will be heavily funneled into advancing clinical trials—currently active in Boston and Poland—and fast-tracking regulatory approvals for its flagship product, EC Pocket Lyme. This device targets the early detection of Borrelia bacteria directly from skin interstitial fluid via a proprietary microneedle sampler, filling a critical medical gap before an immune antibody response even develops. Backed by an accelerated regulatory pathway via an FDA Breakthrough Device Designation received in January 2026, En Carta is simultaneously pursuing a $14.8 million commercial partnership with French diagnostic specialist AAZ to manufacture and distribute millions of rapid self-tests for chlamydia and gonorrhoea across Europe over the next five years, using a cost-efficient, fabless production model managed alongside Circum Medical.
