News of the Day

Fal.ai, a fast-growing infrastructure provider for image, video, and audio AI models, has raised $250 million in new funding at a valuation exceeding $4 billion, according to multiple sources. The round was led by Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia, coming less than three months after Fal’s $125 million Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation led by Meritech. This rapid escalation mirrors the company’s explosive traction. Fal’s revenue has surged from $10 million to $95 million annually. At the same time, its developer base has quadrupled to over 2 million users, driven by soaring demand for multimodal AI applications like OpenAI’s Sora. Founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven, the Toronto-based startup provides access to more than 600 AI models across media types. It operates thousands of Nvidia H100 and H200 GPUs, which are fine-tuned for fast inference. Fal’s infrastructure powers media creation tools used by Adobe, Canva, Perplexity, and Shopify, positioning it as a specialized alternative to giants like Microsoft and Google. With over $450 million raised to date, Fal’s hypergrowth underscores the market’s appetite for developer-friendly infrastructure tailored to the booming world of multimodal AI.
