Google.org is launching the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI program, allocating $20 million in grants to support 21 nonprofits, including Quill.org and the World Bank, in leveraging generative AI technology for social impact. Participants will receive technical training, mentorship, and assistance from Google employees. Projects include AI-powered tools for student feedback, making research accessible, language translation for refugees, and streamlining public benefits applications. Despite the potential of generative AI in advancing their missions, many nonprofits face barriers such as cost and lack of resources. However, the interest in AI-focused initiatives among nonprofits is growing, as evidenced by the increasing number of applicants in nonprofit accelerators like Fast Forward.
