Google has implemented restrictions on its AI chatbot, Gemini, to limit responses to election-related queries in countries where elections are underway. This measure aims to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate or misleading information and highlights concerns about the potential misuse of generative AI during elections. Although the restrictions are already active in the U.S., India, and other countries with forthcoming elections, the system isn't foolproof, as certain queries with typos may still receive answers. This move comes after India required tech companies to obtain government approval before launching new AI models, emphasizing the importance of responsible information dissemination during critical electoral periods.
