Inspired by the U.S.-based Gaingels, Til Klein and Jochen Beutgen launched Identity.vc in 2023 to support early-stage companies with LGBTQ+ founders in Europe. Based in Berlin, Identity.vc is raising a €50 million fund, having secured €15 million so far. The firm, which is sector agnostic and invests across Europe and beyond, offers investments ranging from €250,000 to €1.5 million from pre-seed to Series A stages. Their portfolio includes companies like eco.mio and Paxton. Klein emphasizes the importance of LGBTQ+ founders being open with their investors to foster trust. Identity.vc has received positive feedback from LPs, as 45% of U.S. investors seek to back LGBTQ+ founders according to a Morgan Stanley survey. Unlike Gaingels' syndicate model, Identity.vc opted for a traditional fund to facilitate follow-on investments and to make a significant statement with their larger fund size. They aim to build a robust European LGBTQ+ investor community, holding events and creating a Slack channel for 300 members to foster connections. Klein believes their diversity-driven approach will yield unique access to promising startups and interesting deals.
