News of the Day
During TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, Vinod Khosla criticized California Senator Scott Wiener’s AI bill, SB 1047, calling the senator “clueless” about AI’s national security dangers. Khosla argued that Wiener, a state legislator, lacks the expertise to handle global AI risks, though he supported Wiener’s housing work. Wiener responded, calling Khosla's remarks arrogant, pointing out he collaborated with AI luminaries like Geoffrey Hinton in drafting the bill. The bill faced opposition from Silicon Valley leaders and was ultimately vetoed by Governor Newsom, who echoed concerns it could hinder AI innovation in California.
