Startups are still searching for viable ways to monetize AI products, and Koah, a new adtech startup, thinks advertising inside AI chats is the missing piece. Fresh off a $5 million seed round led by Forerunner, Koah is already placing sponsored messages into AI-powered apps like Luzia, Heal, Liner, and DeepAI, working with advertisers such as UpWork and Skillshare. The company argues that while subscriptions made sense for early, wealthier adopters, global AI apps with users in regions like Latin America can’t rely on $20-per-month fees to cover high inference costs. Koah claims its ads feel more natural than traditional ad placements, with 7.5% clickthrough rates and some partners generating $10,000 in their first month. If successful, Koah could make AI apps sustainable at scale without forcing them into heavy VC reliance, while giving advertisers a new channel that sits in the middle of the purchase funnel — more targeted than Instagram awareness ads, but earlier than Google’s conversion-driven search.
