📝 Legio raises $5M

News of the Day

Toronto-based startup Legio has secured $5 million in seed funding entirely from local growth equity firm Klass Capital to advance its AI-native campus security and operations platform. Founded in April by CEO Darren Hill, CTO Mike Wertman, and CPO Joe Crampton, the startup aims to streamline dispatch, incident response, casework, and compliance reporting for higher education safety teams, addressing internal estimates that officers spend nearly 40% of their time on administrative paperwork instead of active patrols. Notably, Hill and Wertman share a close tie to their sole investor as operating team members at Klass Capital. Legio plans to use the capital injection to expand its engineering team, accelerate product development, and scale its design partner program, which currently collaborates with post-secondary institutions to refine the platform while navigating heightened scrutiny surrounding campus safety and surveillance.
