Proton, the privacy-focused app maker, has launched Proton Scribe, an AI-enabled writing assistant for email composition, redrafting, and proofreading. Built on the open-source Mistral 7B language model, Proton Scribe addresses privacy concerns by allowing local device deployment, ensuring user data doesn't leave the device. This move aligns with Proton's commitment to privacy, contrasting with Google’s similar AI tool for Gmail. Proton Scribe, available under the open-source GPL-3.0 license, promises no data retention and offers faster performance if run on Proton’s servers. Initially available for Proton Mail on the web and desktop, with future mobile expansion, it costs $2.99 per month for business users, with free access for certain legacy plan holders.
