News of the Day

Montréal-based LocusX has raised a $3-million seed round to bring its AI-powered debugging engine to game developers, aiming to ease the industry’s chronic crunch around fixing bugs before release. Co-led by Diagram Ventures and Triptyq Capital, the startup’s tool plugs into developers’ workflows, using large language models to suggest—but not automatically implement—bug fixes, leaving final judgment to coders. CEO François Pelland, a Ubisoft and EA veteran, said the platform is designed to boost the “fix rate” now, with plans to expand into identifying bugs later. The five-person team includes CTO Yan Côté, who previously co-built VR headset maker Vrvana, later acquired by Apple. Backers see LocusX as part of a broader AI-driven reshaping of gaming, from graphics to voice acting, as Canada’s industry wrestles with layoffs, tax credit changes, and rising costs. While initially focused on triple-A and indie studios, LocusX is eyeing future expansion into AR and VR, but for now its mission is clear: get games out the door with fewer bugs and less developer stress.
