News of the Day

MDA Space is investing $10 million in Maritime Launch Services, forging a strategic partnership to support the development and future operations of Spaceport Nova Scotia, Canada’s first commercial orbital launch complex now under construction near Canso, NS. The investment—made at a 50% premium over Maritime Launch’s pre-announcement share price—grants MDA equity rights, including a board nomination and participation in future financings, while funding R&D initiatives tied to the spaceport’s infrastructure and launch readiness. The partnership aligns with MDA’s goal of strengthening Canada’s sovereign launch capacity, giving the country a foothold in the rapidly expanding global launch market. Maritime Launch, which also recently secured $10 million in debt financing from EDC and $1 million from Reaction Dynamics, aims to offer reliable satellite launch services for domestic and international clients amid growing competition from Ontario-based NordSpace, which is developing a rival site in Newfoundland. For MDA, the move comes as it navigates headwinds in its own business—its shares have fallen sharply following lost and threatened contracts to SpaceX—but the deal positions it at the center of Canada’s emerging space infrastructure ecosystem.
