News of the Day

Montréal-based robotics firm Mecademic has secured $21 million in strategic funding from a trio of Canadian government agencies, Investissement Québec, Export Development Canada, and the Business Development Bank of Canada, to scale its "palm-sized" industrial automation global reach. Specializing in what it claims are the world’s most precise and compact industrial robots, the company serves high-stakes clients like SpaceX, NASA, and Meta, providing automation solutions for confined environments in electronics and biopharmaceuticals that traditional machinery cannot navigate. The fresh capital arrives on the heels of a leadership expansion, including the appointment of former Ericsson executive Dominique Jodoin as chairman, and will be utilized to double down on the company’s Montréal headquarters while accelerating aggressive hiring across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. By leveraging this state-backed investment, Mecademic aims to capitalize on its recent period of "robust performance" and solidify its position as a niche leader in the increasingly crowded physical AI and micro-automation market.
