📝 Meta acquires WaveForms

News of the Day

Meta has acquired WaveForms, a promising AI voice startup founded just eight months ago, for an undisclosed amount, bolstering its AI division, Superintelligence Labs. WaveForms previously raised $40 million at a $160 million valuation from Andreessen Horowitz. Co-founders Alexis Conneau (ex-Meta/OpenAI, co-creator of GPT-4o Advanced Voice Mode) and Coralie Lemaitre (ex-Google) have joined Meta. WaveForms focused on solving the “Speech Turing Test” — creating AI voices indistinguishable from humans — and developing “Emotional General Intelligence” to enhance AI understanding of human self-awareness. The startup’s website has been taken down post-acquisition, and the fate of its remaining team is currently unclear.
