Techstars CEO Maëlle Gavet has announced her departure from the company at the end of the month due to health reasons. Effective immediately, Techstars co-founder and board chairman David Cohen will step in as CEO. Gavet, who became CEO in 2021, reflected positively on her tenure in a LinkedIn post, expressing gratitude towards her team and the broader Techstars community, despite facing numerous challenges. Her leadership style reportedly led to internal tensions and significant staff turnover. Additionally, Techstars struggled to balance growth with profitability and faced strained relationships with key corporate partners like JPMorgan Chase, resulting in the closure of several accelerator programs. Cohen, in a statement, acknowledged Gavet’s efforts in making difficult but necessary changes and expressed well wishes for her health. He also conveyed enthusiasm about returning to the CEO role, focusing on improving the company for founders.
