NorthX Climate Tech has funnelled over $2.2 million in fresh funding into a trio of British Columbia startups to combat a wildfire crisis that leadership now describes as a permanent structural risk rather than a seasonal threat. The investments target three distinct stages of fire management: Kelowna-based Crwn.ai will use its $981,000 share to install 500 AI-powered sensors along utility lines for remote monitoring, while Victoria’s Nova received $600,000 to evolve its drone-mapping software into a comprehensive data hub for emergency responders. Rounding out the group is Vancouver’s Skyward Wildfire, which secured $643,000 for its ambitious lightning-prevention system that utilizes aerial intervention and weather modelling to neutralize electrical charges in storm clouds before they can ignite dry timber. Since its inception in 2021, the non-profit NorthX—formerly known as the BC Centre for Innovation and Clean Energy—has catalyzed over $621 million in private investment, positioning hardware-based climate technology as a critical frontline defence for communities facing increasingly destructive natural disasters.
