📝 Numeral raises $35M

News of the Day

Numeral has raised $35 million in Series B funding at a $350 million valuation as it pushes to automate the messy world of sales tax compliance with AI. Founded by former Airbnb PM Sam Ross, who first felt the pain of multi-state tax obligations while running e-commerce shops on the road, Numeral has grown rapidly since joining Y Combinator in 2023. The startup’s AI platform aims to act like a digital tax accountant, handling everything from tracking 11,000+ jurisdictional rules to managing filings, payments, and tax-related mail. Revenue has grown 3.5x in the past year, with more than 2,000 customers, including EightSleep, Graza Olive Oil, and Manus. The round, led by Mayfield with Benchmark, Uncork, YC, and even The Chainsmokers’ Mantis fund participating, follows an $18 million Series A just six months ago. While it faces rivals like Anrok, Zamp, and incumbent Avalara, Numeral says its international coverage — filing taxes in places like Tanzania and Kenya — is what sets it apart.
