OpenAI has endorsed three significant Senate bills related to artificial intelligence, signaling its support for federal oversight and educational initiatives in AI. The bills include the Future of AI Innovation Act, the NSF AI Education Act, and the CREATE AI Act. The Future of AI Innovation Act would formally establish the U.S. AI Safety Institute to set standards and guidelines for AI models. OpenAI's Vice President of Global Affairs, Anna Makanju, highlighted the importance of minimizing potential risks posed by AI through Congressional backing for the institute. The other two bills aim to provide federal scholarships for AI research and establish AI educational resources within colleges and K-12 settings. OpenAI's endorsements reflect its belief in the government's role in ensuring AI safety and accessibility and may also be a strategic move to secure a favorable position in future regulatory discussions. This move comes as OpenAI, now valued at $86 billion, faces potential regulatory scrutiny and seeks to maintain goodwill with lawmakers.
