Aravind Srinivas, CEO of AI search startup Perplexity, has offered to support the New York Times with “technical infra support” during an upcoming strike by NYT tech workers, sparking controversy. The NYT Tech Guild, representing staff handling software and data analysis, announced its intent to strike on November 4, after months of contract negotiations with demands for a 2.5% wage increase and limited in-office requirements. Srinivas’ offer, viewed by many as a willingness to “scab,” drew criticism, especially in light of Perplexity’s recent cease-and-desist notice from the Times for scraping its articles.
