News of the Day
Phantom Neuro, a Texas-based startup developing a neural interface to control prosthetic limbs, has raised $19 million in funding led by German prosthetics giant Ottobock. Founded by neurosurgeon-turned-founder Dr. Connor Glass, the company’s tech involves a small implant under the skin that interprets nerve signals — the kind amputees still feel from “phantom limbs” — and translates them into precise prosthetic movements. Phantom’s software showed 94% accuracy in non-invasive tests, with claims of 85% functionality restored after just 10 minutes of calibration. With FDA breakthrough status and a growing list of backers, including Intel and Johns Hopkins, Phantom is betting that its less-invasive, scalable solution could be a game-changer not only for amputees but potentially for robotics and AI training in the future.
The AI boom is not just probably bigger than the two previous ones I've seen (integrated circuits and the internet), but also seems to be spreading faster.
