Two university students, Alexander Sherbrooke and Iakov Taranenko, discovered and reported a security flaw in CSC ServiceWorks' internet-connected laundry machines, allowing anyone to operate them for free. Despite repeated attempts to alert the company, including contacting Carnegie Mellon's CERT Coordination Center, the vulnerability remains unfixed months later. The flaw exploits the CSC Go app’s API, enabling users to manipulate account balances and control machines without actual payments. CSC, a large laundry service company, has over a million machines worldwide. The students highlighted the potential dangers of such vulnerabilities, including possible safety risks with heavy-duty appliances. Despite CSC quietly nullifying the researchers' manipulated account balance, the company has not addressed the core issue, leading the students to disclose their findings publicly after the customary grace period for fixing security flaws.

I am seeing that the employers who are stepping away from remote work, and requiring more in office days are playing a losing game with fucking around and finding out.
Quite literally are shooting themselves in the foot.
