Taya, a San Francisco-based startup founded by former Apple design engineer Elena Wagenmans, has secured $5 million in seed funding to launch a privacy-centric AI pendant that records only the user’s voice. Priced at $89 for preorders, the Taya Necklace distinguishes itself from ambient "meeting recorders" by utilizing directional microphones and voice-print onboarding to isolate the wearer's speech while filtering out others in the room. The jewelry-inspired device, which is off by default and activated via a physical tap, pairs with an iOS app that allows users to categorize notes and query their own recorded thoughts through an AI chat interface. By focusing on a "single-player" experience, Taya aims to overcome the social stigma and privacy concerns currently dogging the wearable AI market, positioning the device as a tool for personal reflection and behavioral insight rather than an all-encompassing surveillance gadget.
