After vowing never to start another company following the $120M+ sale of their African fintech startup Expensya, founders Karim Jouini and Jihed Othmani are back with Thunder Code — a generative AI-powered software testing platform that’s raised $9 million in seed funding. Funding has come from Silicon Badia, Janngo Capital, Titan Seed Fund, and notable angels. Drawing on hard lessons from their first venture and inspired by challenges Jouini faced while integrating global tech firms at Medius, Thunder Code uses AI “agents” to automate QA, detect subtle UX issues, and accelerate shipping for developer teams in the U.S., Canada, France, and Tunisia. With ambitions to scale into mobile, desktop, and API testing, and a firm belief in lean, high-impact AI teams, the duo is aiming for a unicorn exit — this time, faster, sharper, and with fewer regrets.

You have to wonder if the recent moves by the big AI labs to more directly compete with the app layer will be one giant tailwind for incumbents like Google, Amazon, MSFT, etc.
If developers can’t trust the labs, maybe it’s better to trust the big guys like they did for cloud?
