📝 UK investing £500 million in startup ecosystem
News of the Day
The UK government’s British Business Bank is launching a £500 million (\$674 million) initiative to tackle long-standing inequities in venture capital. £50 million is earmarked for female-led VC funds, with the remainder targeting diverse fund managers and early-stage founders from underrepresented backgrounds. Set to deploy in 2026, the program aims for at least 50% of its investment to go to female fund managers and is part of the government’s broader “Plan for Change” to drive inclusive economic growth. The move comes amid persistent funding gaps, with women and minority founders still receiving a tiny fraction of venture capital in the UK.
