Do you know the origins of the Rockefeller fortune? John Rockefeller, born in 1839, was the pioneer who ignited the American oil boom. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found Standard Oil in 1870, revolutionizing the industry by acquiring competitors, securing secret railroad deals, and innovating in production. By the 1880s, Standard Oil's dominance, controlling 90% of U.S. refineries and pipelines, prompted government intervention. In 1911, the company was dismantled into 34 independent entities under antitrust laws, leading to well-known companies like Exxon and Chevron. The immense wealth of the Rockefeller family originates from these ventures, but it remains largely inaccessible until the fourth generation due to its placement in multiple trusts.
