In 2023, the combined enterprise value (EV) of Spanish startups surpassed €100 billion, according to Dealroom's latest report. Venture investment into Spanish startups remained strong, with €2.2 billion raised across 850 funding rounds, a slight decrease from the extraordinary levels of 2021 and 2022 but still above pre-pandemic activity. Spain's startup ecosystem now outpaces countries like Norway, Italy, and Portugal, although it still lags behind tech hubs like Cambridge, which alone has a combined EV of $191 billion. Despite a slowdown in late-stage funding, early-stage investments hit an all-time high, signalling a healthy pipeline for future scaleups. The report suggests that Spain's rapidly growing tech ecosystem has significant potential, especially with most venture funding directed towards climate tech, biotech, and clean energy. Spanish VCs remain optimistic about the future, anticipating that several current startups will evolve into major scaleups within the next five to ten years.
