German electric air taxi startup Volocopter has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing financial struggles despite leading the industry in technology, flight tests, and certification. CEO Dirk Hoke expressed optimism about attracting new investors during internal restructuring. The move follows a precarious period for the company and comes shortly after rival Lilium faced similar issues but secured a last-minute investor deal. Volocopter, backed by major players like Mercedes-Benz and Geely, has raised substantial funds over the past decade but joins a growing list of eVTOL startups facing financial headwinds.
