News of the Day

WaiV Robotics has emerged from stealth with $7.5 million in Seed funding to solve the "missing piece" of offshore drone operations: the infrastructure required for reliable takeoff and landing in turbulent maritime environments. By developing a patent-pending catch-lock-release mechanism and AI-driven predictive algorithms, the British startup enables vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones to operate from moving vessels as small as 10 meters without requiring any modifications to the aircraft itself. This autonomous, gyro-stabilized platform effectively "takes over the sticks" during recovery, absorbing impact and securing the UAV to prevent slides or roll-offs even during high sea states. The investment highlights a robust 2026 funding trend for European autonomy and unmanned systems, with WaiV joining a domestic ecosystem of innovators like Mutable Tactics and Stanhope AI. As maritime fleets increasingly look to UAVs for mission execution, WaiV’s hardware-agnostic solution aims to unlock large-scale deployment across a sector traditionally hindered by the unpredictable motion of open-water decks. The company plans to scale its technology to support a wide weight range of aircraft, from small 3 kg carriers to massive 300 kg platforms, positioning itself as a critical enabler for the next generation of offshore aerial intelligence.
