đź“ť YC/PearAI controversy
News of the Day
PearAI, a Y Combinator-backed startup, sparked controversy after launching its AI coding editor, which closely resembled an existing open-source project called Continue. PearAI initially applied a proprietary license, leading to accusations of violating the original Apache license. After a public outcry, founder Duke Pan apologized, and PearAI switched to the correct open-source license. The incident highlighted ongoing debates about intellectual property in the open-source community and drew criticism of YC’s vetting process for startups, particularly around originality and due diligence.
