Y Combinator’s latest startup batch reveals a dramatic shift toward AI-powered coding, with 25% of companies generating 95% of their code using AI. Managing partner Jared Friedman emphasized that these founders are highly technical but now rely on AI to build products. The trend, dubbed “vibe coding,” describes using AI instinctively rather than focusing on code details. However, AI-generated code isn’t flawless—security risks, outages, and debugging challenges remain. While AI-assisted coding is becoming dominant, YC leaders stress the importance of traditional coding skills to sustain products long-term. Investors are betting big, with startups in AI coding tools raising hundreds of millions.
