Nielsen's January report highlights YouTube's continued dominance in the U.S. TV streaming landscape, maintaining the top spot for 12 consecutive months with 8.6% of TV screen viewing usage, surpassing Netflix's 7.9%. This achievement underscores a growing preference among U.S. consumers for user-generated content, as evidenced by the daily average of over 1 billion hours of YouTube content watched on TV screens. Particularly noteworthy is the appeal of this content format to Gen Z, with 61% favoring user-generated videos over traditional TV shows. YouTube's success extends to its creators as well, with a significant increase in viewership from TVs noted, including a notable 172% jump in TV watch time for creator HopeScope. Despite YouTube's leadership in the living room, TikTok remains a strong contender on mobile devices, exploring longer video formats and venturing into spatial reality with an app for the Apple Vision Pro. YouTube, however, has achieved significant milestones, including 100 million users for YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, over 8 million YouTube TV subscribers, and over 70 billion daily views for YouTube Shorts.

Miami got 2.5% of pre-seed funding in 2023, respectable tbh! Bay Area had 35%, NYC 15%, LA 7%.
